About Julie Bassett
Julie Basett began her marketing career in 1991, after completing her degree at California State University Long Beach. Recognizing the rapid expansion of European companies into the US, she accepted an internship at KnowledgeWare, GmbH in Stuttgart Germany to gain international marketing experience.
During her 3 years at KnowledgeWare, a leading provider of application development tools, Julie was promoted 3 times and was eventually responsible for pan-European marketing programs run out of the Paris headquarters. In addition to PR, her responsibilities included events management, collateral, advertising and direct mail. A particular high point was her role in turning around several historically negative relationships with key journalists, which lead to dramatic improvements in the companys press program. With 3 years and a broad range of experience behind her, Julie decided to pursue the next phase of her career in the US.
After leaving KnowledgeWare in 1994, Julie returned to California to work as US Marketing Manager for R&O, a German-based repository vendor starting-up in the US. At R&O Julie was responsible for all marketing activities including database management, advertising, events, collateral and oversaw a $1 million budget.
R&O moved its headquarters to Boston in late 1994 and Julie chose to return to Southern California to work as US Marketing Manager for SELECT Software Tools. SELECT offered application development tools and was fairly well established in its home territory in the UK, but had yet to build a significant presence in the US.
During her 4 years at SELECT, Julie was promoted to Marketing Director, Director of Global Marketing and then to Vice President of Marketing. The company completed a successful NASDAQ IPO in 1996, allowing Julie to add investor relations to her list of skills and experience. At SELECT Julies led a marketing team of 12 and was responsible for all areas of marketing including the Web site, events, global collateral, direct mail, partnerships, email, lead generation, database management, PR and investor relations. Through her work, the company was placed in Gartners Group's "winners box" for modelilng tools, and built highly beneficial relationships with other key analysts such as Hurwitz Group, Meta Group and IDC. Julie and her team also pioneered using the Internet as a key marketing tool for the company by creating a sophisticated Intranet to facilitate global communications, conducting on-line seminars and email campaigns. The company also saw tremendous success in her niche-focused marketing programs based around key partners such as Microsoft, IBM, Lawson Software, Forte and PeopleSoft.
As VP of Marketing Julie contributed directly to the company's global marketing strategy, helping branch offices in Germany and Australia and often working out of the UK headquarters. Julie was the 14th employee for SELECT's US office when the company had revenue of $1.4 million. She grew with the company, which eventually had over 300 employees and revenue of $28 million. Julie left SELECT in February of 1999 to co-found InvestorIQ.com, an Internet company providing investment research.
InvestorIQ.com gave Julie the experience of building a company from the ground up along with building a sophisticated e-commerce Web site. In addition to her responsibilities for marketing, she also handled partnerships and sales.
After leaving InvestorIQ.com, Julie decided to make use of her broad-range of PR and marketing skills and began consulting for high tech and Internet companies as head of Bassett PR & Marketing. Her clients include SRS Labs, MMInternet, EnterpriseDNA and EZ(ware) Consulting.
